Ellwood City bats come alive, beat the Trojans to make WPIAL playoffs


Ellwood City Wolverines Blows Out North Catholic

Ellwood City Wolverines won big over North Catholic 9-3 on Wednesday. Ellwood City Wolverines got on the board in the second inning. Ellwood City Wolverines scored one run when Joey Rush singled.

Ellwood City Wolverines put up four runs in the third inning. Samuel DiCaprio, James Meehan, Doug Balin, and Ashton Wilson powered the big inning with RBIs.

Ryan Gibbons earned the victory on the hill for Ellwood City Wolverines. He lasted six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out 11. Ryan Hampton threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Totzke took the loss for North Catholic. He went two innings, allowing five runs on six hits and walking one.

Ellwood City Wolverines totaled 12 hits in the game. Balin, DiCaprio, Ricky Pitrelli, and Gibbons each had multiple hits for Ellwood City Wolverines. Gibbons, Pitrelli, DiCaprio, and Balin all had two hits to lead Ellwood City Wolverines.

North Catholic racked up seven hits in the game. Feczko and J Prentice each racked up multiple hits for North Catholic.

The Wolverines will now wait for the playoff seeding and pairings released by WPIAL tomorrow afternoon to see who their first round opponent will be.
