"Play-in-Game" for Playoffs tonight for the Wolverines
Win and you are in
The Wolverines playoff fate was set in motion last night, as two teams helped determine what they will need to do tonight to get in - win and you are in.
Last night, the Freedom Bulldogs bested the Beaver Falls Tigers 10-0 to improve their record to 6-5 in 3A Section 2 play while also clinching the the third seed for playoffs. Furthermore, the Tigers had to forfeit their win over Hopewell after going over the 100 pitch count for pitchers, officially eliminating the Tigers from any hopes of playoffs.
The second game last night included North Catholic and Shady Side Academy. North Catholic needed the win to stay alive for playoffs, while Shady Side was looking to pull the upset. After 3 solid innings, Shady Side was up 3-0. However, pitch count came into play during the last few innings for Shady Side as North Catholic scored 7 total runs in the last 4 innings to win 7-4 and improve their conference record to 5-6, setting up tonight’s crucial matchup between the Wolverines and the Trojans.
Here are the standings as of 05/07 finals:
12-5 (10-1) Hopewell Vikings *
11-5 (8-3) New Brighton Lions *
9-8 (6-5) Freedom Bulldogs *
6-9 (5-6) Ellwood City Wolverines
5-10 (5-6) North Catholic Trojans

Hopewell, New Brighton, and Freedom have locked in their seeding and playoff hopes. Beaver Falls and Shady Side have been eliminated.
