Wolverines pull of drop-third strike stolen base at home, beat Lancers 2-1

Ellwood City Wolverines snagged a late lead and defeated Deer Lakes 2-1 on Wednesday. The game was tied at one with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the seventh when Ellwood City Wolverines scored one run on a stolen base.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Ellwood City Wolverines pitchers struck out four, while Greg Geis sat down six. Ellwood City Wolverines knotted the game up at one in the top of the sixth inning. Samuel DiCaprio doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Ryan Gibbons was credited with the victory for Ellwood City Wolverines. He went six and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out three. Zach Polojac and Ryan Hampton entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Polojac recorded the last out to earn the save for Ellwood City Wolverines.

Geis took the loss for Deer Lakes. He surrendered two runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out six. Ricky Pitrelli, DiCaprio, James Meehan, Joey Rush, and Ashton Wilson each collected one hit to lead Ellwood City Wolverines. Ellwood City Wolverines was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Pitrelli made the most plays with seven.

Lady Wolverines hold on for high-scoring win over the Yellow Jackets, 14-11

Wolverines stole the lead late in the game in a 14-11 victory over Freeport on Thursday. The game was tied at 11 with Wolverines batting in the top of the ninth when Natalia Greco singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Greco led Wolverines to victory by driving in four runs. She went 3-for-6 at the plate. Greco drove in runs on a in the first, a double in the seventh, and a single in the ninth.

Wolverines took an early lead in the second inning. Wolverines scored three runs when Anna Ferrucci homered. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Freeport tied things up at 11 when Anastazia Herbst singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Wolverines notched six runs in the second inning. Wolverines scored its runs on a home run by Ferrucci.

Freeport scored five runs in the sixth inning. Freeport batters contributing to the big inning included Emily Schmidt, Allison DeJidas, and Tori Radvan, all driving in runs in the inning.

Angie Nardone led the Wolverines to victory in the circle. She allowed 15 hits and 11 runs over nine innings, striking out nine. Radvan was on the rubber for Freeport. She went nine innings, allowing 14 runs on 13 hits and striking out seven.

Wolverines launched one home run on the day. Ferrucci had a long ball in the second inning. Wolverines racked up 13 hits in the game. Ferrucci, Greco, Maria Ioanilli, and Nardone all had multiple hits for Wolverines. Ferrucci led Wolverines with four hits in four at bats.

Freeport collected 15 hits. Autumn Powell, DeJidas, Radvan, Natalie King, and Herbst each racked up multiple hits for Freeport.
