Early Lead For Hopewell Seals Fate For Ellwood City Wolverines
Wolverines give up 8 runs in 6th inning to lose 13-2 to the Vikings
Ellwood City Wolverines fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 13-2 loss to Hopewell on Saturday. Hopewell took the lead on a stolen base in the first inning. The Ellwood City Wolverines struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Hopewell, giving up 13 runs.
Hopewell opened up scoring in the first inning, when Hopewell scored on a stolen base during Jake McGovern's at bat. Then McGovern singled.
Hopewell scored eight runs in the sixth inning. Hopewell offense in the inning was led by Tyler Beck, McGovern, Roman Gill, Anthony Slate, Anthony LaSala, and Enzo Palumbo, all driving in runs in the frame.
Gill earned the win for Hopewell. He lasted six innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out three and walking zero. Ryan Gibbons took the loss for Ellwood City Wolverines. He allowed seven hits and five runs over five innings, striking out two. Ricky Pitrelli and Samuel DiCaprio each managed one hit to lead Ellwood City Wolverines.
Hopewell racked up 11 hits. Palumbo, McGovern, and Slate each managed multiple hits for Hopewell.
The Wolverines now move to 2-3 (1-1) on the season and will travel on Monday (4:00 PM) to Freedom for another conference game matchup.
