Wolverines use 3-run 6th inning to tame the Lions 8-5, win Conference Opener


 
 

Ellwood City Wolverines Clinches Lead in Sixth Inning for Victory Over New Brighton

Ellwood City Wolverines stole the lead late in the game in an 8-5 victory over New Brighton on Wednesday. The game was tied at five with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the sixth when Jeramie Hill induced Brady Welsh to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

New Brighton scored three runs in the first inning, but Ellwood City Wolverines still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for New Brighton came thanks to a single by Jackson Hall and an error on a ball put in play by Dakota McBride.

In the first inning, New Brighton got their offense started. Hall drove in two when he singled. Ellwood City Wolverines scored five runs in the third inning. Ellwood City Wolverines put the pressure on, lead by singles by Ricky Pitrelli and Noah Magill, by Ryan Gibbons, and a fielder's choice by Samuel DiCaprio.

Ryan Hampton was credited with the victory for Ellwood City Wolverines. He went six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three. Hall took the loss for New Brighton. He lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out three. Gibbons started the game for Ellwood City Wolverines. He allowed two hits and three runs over one inning, striking out one

Ellwood City Wolverines scattered eight hits in the game. James Meehan and Pitrelli each had multiple hits for Ellwood City Wolverines. Pitrelli and Meehan each collected two hits to lead Ellwood City Wolverines.

New Brighton racked up five hits on the day. Ashton Fath and Hall all managed multiple hits for New Brighton.

The Wolverines with 2 wins on the season already have half the total number of wins from last season (4-11). The Wolverines will now look towards Friday as they take on new conference foe Hopewell Vikings, 3-2 (1-0), at 4:30.
