Wolverines break through in 4th inning, down the Indians 4-2 in conference play

Ellwood City Wolverines wins contest against Shady Side Academy on Wednesday, 4-2

Ellwood City Wolverines fired up the offense in the first inning. Shady Side Academy evened things up at one in the bottom of the third inning. Tyler Hart hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.

Ellwood City Wolverines pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth an error scored one run for Ellwood City Wolverines and Doug Balin singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Ryan Gibbons took the win for Ellwood City Wolverines. He went five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out eight. Brady Welsh threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

John Salvitti took the loss for Shady Side Academy. He went seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out four and walking one. Welsh led Ellwood City Wolverines with two hits in four at bats.

Next up for the Wolverines is a conference game against Hopewell today at 4:00 PM (depending on the weather). This will be the Wolverines third game in a row, as they lost to New Brighton on Tuesday (4-3 Loss) and yesterday’s win over Shady Side Academy (4-2 Win).
