Wolverines Fall Short Against Riverside
Although Broc Boariu put 26 points on the scoreboard, Ellwood City fell to Riverside 59-47. Riverside grabbed the lead against Wolverines on a two-pointer from Ben Hughes in the second period and held on.
Despite a strong finish, with 22 points in the final quarter, the Wolverines failed to secure the win. Racking up 24 fouls in total, Ellwood City played a physical game.
Boariu had a great game from the field, making 64% (9-for-14) of shots attempted as well as 70% (7-for-10) of threes attempted.
Also contributing for Ellwood City were Steve Antuono (6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals), Rick Pitrelli (5 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal), Milo Sesti (3 points, 4 rebounds), Isiah Leos-Coleman (3 points, 1 rebound, 1 block), Rocco Sesti (2 points, 1 rebound), and Alexander Roth (2 points).
The Wolverines finished the game with 27 rebounds (9 offensive / 18 defensive), one block and four steals.
The Wolverines now fall to 6-15 (2-10) on the season while the Panthers move to 10-11 (4-8). Both teams have been eliminated from playoffs, as 3A Section 1 will be represented by Lincoln Park, Aliquippa, Neshannock, and Beaver Falls in the playoffs.
Next up for the Wolverines is their season finale, as they travel to Cardinal Mooney HS in Ohio for a clash of PA vs. Ohio next Tuesday.
