Lady Wolverines must-win mentality proves great against Panthers, prevail to 2 point victory


Lady Wolverines defeat Panthers in thrilling fashion

Ioanilli's 3-point play with combined free throws from Servick and Roth boost Wolverines to VICTORY over Riverside with a final score of 38-36.

Another strong defensive effort by Ellwood City held the Panthers to just 14 points at the half. Leading the scoring column was Isabella Roth with 12 points including two triples. Maria Ioanilli had 3 buckets and went 3-5 from the line.

Kyla Servick added 6 fourth quarter free throws to tip the scale while Natalia Greco collected three hard fought buckets for 6. Olivia Battaglia also knocked down a 3-pointer and went 2-2 from the line. Chloe Sturgeon gave valuable defensive minutes off the bench in all four quarters.

Ellwood City (13-9; 6-8) awaits a big match-up between Mohawk and Beaver on Saturday (@ Mohawk 2 PM) to determine if the Lady Wolverines make the playoffs. If Mohawk loses, both teams will move to 6-8 in conference play and under WPIAL rules, both teams will be selected for a 17 team bracket with one play-in game.
