Wolverines Fall Short Against Cardinal Mooney
Ellwood City fell to Cardinal Mooney on Tuesday, 57-43, even with Broc Boariu scoring 23 points. Cardinal Mooney sealed their victory in the fourth quarter on a free throw from John Murphy.
Wolverines had a great end to the first half, scoring a game-high 18 points during the second quarter. Both teams were aggressive on the field, with Cardinal Mooney picking up 22 fouls while Ellwood City had 25.
Boariu was the leader of Ellwood’s offense with 23 points, including 13 during the second period. He also contributed 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Also helping the effort for the Wolverines were Ryan Gibbons (5 points, 4 rebounds), Rick Pitrelli (4 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block), Steve Antuono (4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal), Alexander Roth (4 points, 1 rebound), and Sammy DiCaprio (2 points, 1 rebound).
Ellwood City finished the game with 28 rebounds (4 offensive / 24 defensive), three blocks and five steals.
