State Championships - Results & Predictions
State Championship Week is here! Games start today at 1 PM, and no…we are not cheating on our predictions…starting just a little late today. Check out our predictions and the scores of games below as we bring you PA State Championship Week!
Harrisburg (14-1) vs. St. Joseph’s Prep (12-0) - Saturday 6 PM
Prediction: St. Joseph’s Prep (by 2 TDs)
Harrisburg is a great story this year, having three straight tough games to get to the finals. St. Joseph’s Prep or “that private school from Philly” continues to show dominance in the 6A classification had an easy route to the finals. With the last game of the Championship weekend, expect this one to be a no-brainer - take St. Joseph’s Prep in a convincing win by 2 TDs.
FINAL SCORE: 40-20 St. Joseph’s Prep
Manheim Central (14-0) vs. Penn Hills (16-0) - Friday 7 PM
Prediction: Penn Hills (by a TD)
The best representative from the WPIAL will take on another team that has been to Hershey recently. But this Penn Hills Indians team is looking to not only go undefeated, but also to win the most games in HS football in the state of PA. Expect Penn Hills to rely on their QB to make the offensive plays, and a stingy defense that follows that “bend-don’t-break” mentality. Penn Hills by a touchdown.
FINAL SCORE: 36-31 Penn Hills
Imhotep (11-2) vs. Cathedral Prep (12-3) - Thursday 7 PM
Prediction: Cathedral Prep (push)
Let’s start making a trend - D10 schools and Western PA. The W-Zone has always knocked D10 sports across the board as the WPIAL seems more competitive up and down the list. However, we have to give credit where it’s due as another D10 school is looking for a title. Read below…for the other two. Expect Cathedral Prep to win which should be one of the most competitive games this weekend. Toss up is in the air and it lands on Prep for the W-Zone.
FINAL SCORE: 38-7 Cathedral Prep
Middletown (14-1) vs. Aliquippa (15-1) - Saturday 12 PM
Prediction: Aliquippa (by 2 TDs)
This is just like the 6A, 4A, and 2A games…two teams that know of Hershey very well. The Quips have been two years removed from the Championship game as Quaker Valley and Beaver Falls were the representatives the past two years. Middletown will be playing for their third chance at the state title. Expect the Beaver Valley Conference to win again. As we said at the beginning of the year - the Quips will go as far as QB Kosanovich will take them.
FINAL SCORE: 35-0 Aliquippa
Southern Columbia (15-0) vs. Wilmington (14-1) - Friday 1 PM
Prediction: Wilmington (push)
Have faith in the Greyhounds, they will be the small underdog in this one as both teams come back to familiar territory. Both teams have been here before, with Southern Columbia making multiple trips to Hershey since the turn of the century. Expect this game to be competitive at the beginning of the game. Somehow, someway, the magical run continues for another D10 representative.
SCORE: 49-14 Southern Columbia
Lackawanna Trail (14-1) vs. Farrell (14-0) - Thursday 1 PM
Prediction: Farrell (by 3+ TDs)
Farrell should win this game in a land-slide. Farrell as we reported last week is on a terror not only offensively, but defensively. The team is averaging over 40 some points in the season along with the playoffs. The defense has given up more than 10 points only once, as Farrell beat 2A possible champion Wilmington 31-19. Expect Farrell to cruise in this one by more than 3 TDs.
FINAL SCORE: 55-20 Farrell
