Wolverines lose to Hopewell in season opener, 72-67
Ellwood City fell to Hopewell on Monday, 72-67 in the first game of the season, with Steve Antuono scoring 20 points. Enzo Palumbo helped Hopewell take the lead for good with a free throw in the third quarter.
The Wolverines and Vikings were tied up at 36-36 at the half, but the Vikings gained the momentum during the final two quarters.
Antuono led the charge for the Wolverines offense, scoring 20 points, with eight points during the fourth period. He also contributed four rebounds and one steal.
Broc Boariu (16 points) and Rick Pitrelli (11 points) each sunk multiple three-pointers. Milo Sesti tapped out at double digits, scoring 10 points for Ellwood City (2-for-7). Also chipping in for the Wolverines were Rocco Sesti (7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals) and Rody Polojac (3 points, 2 rebounds). Pitrelli was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up five rebounds and one block.
Ellwood City finished the game with 28 rebounds (7 offensive / 21 defensive), one block and five steals.
