WPIAL 3A-6A Championship Score Results
The Saturday Championship day is here for 3A-6A. The championship games run through the entire day so we will be updating this page throughout the evening. Below are the results so far.
- #1 Pine-Richland (13-0) vs. #2 Pittsburgh Central Catholic (10-3)
Greatness was seen. Phil Jurkovec, a Notre-Dame commit went crazy on the Pittsburgh Central Catholic's defense as Jurkovec racked up crazy stats, numbers, and moved into fifth place on the all-time career passing yards list for WPIALs. Pittsburgh Central Catholic did break through late in the fourth quarter as most of the Rams starters were subbed out.
- #1 Penn-Trafford (11-1) vs. #2 Gateway (11-1)
Gateway pulls the upset over sound Penn-Trafford, proving too much to handle through four quarters. Penn-Trafford had a chance in the end to make the comeback, but a weak pass to the end of the field was picked off to seal the win for the Gators.
- #4 Montour (9-2) vs. #3 Thomas Jefferson (10-1)
The three-peat is alive. Thomas Jefferson relied on an offense that was methodical as well as a stingy defense that played well all season long. Montour had a few chances early in the game, but after the first quarter, all hopes were lost as TJ finished strong. This ends up being the second title game that ended with a team shut out during the championship game.
- #1 Aliquippa (12-1) vs. #2 Quaker Valley (12-1) FINAL
Ricky Guss and company proved the power of teamwork as the Quaker defense caused havoc for the Quips of Aliquippa. With the only score being a 2 point safety, the Quakers forced 5 turnovers on the day as they pull the huge upset 2-0 over the Aliquippa Quips...the first time a score of 2-0 has been recorded in a championship game. (The W-Zone is also looking up the last time the Quips have been shut out in a game...).
